Privacy Policy

This page explains what information DMV Roads collects when you visit www.dmvroads.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We've written it in plain English; the legal language matters less than the practical reality, which is that we collect very little and we use what we collect for the website itself.

Information we collect

Server logs

Like every other public website, our hosting provider records the IP address, requested URL, browser user-agent, and timestamp of each visit. These logs help us spot abuse (bots, scrapers, denial-of-service attempts) and diagnose technical problems. We retain them for a rolling 30-day window and then they are discarded.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages our readers find useful. Analytics cookies record an anonymized identifier, the page you viewed, and the page you came from. We do not use the cookies to identify you personally, and we have configured Google Analytics to anonymize IP addresses before they reach the analytics database.

Advertising

This site displays ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings and the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page. Doing so does not reduce the number of ads you see — it simply makes the ads less relevant.

Contact form

If you write to us through the contact form, we receive your name, email, optional subject line, and message text. We use those only to reply. We do not add you to any newsletter and we do not share contact-form information with third parties.

What we do not collect

We do not ask for your driver's license number, vehicle registration data, social security number, or any other form of government identification. If a website ever asks for those things in a "DMV-related" form, walk away — that is almost always either fraud or a paid third-party intermediary and not the DMV itself.

How long we keep things

  • Server logs: 30 days, then deleted.
  • Analytics data: retained at Google for the period set in our Google Analytics property settings (currently 14 months).
  • Contact form messages: in our inbox until they are resolved, then archived for a year as a quality-control record, then deleted.

Your rights

European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Spain

The owner of this website is resident in Spain, so the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679, "GDPR") and the Spanish Organic Law on the Protection of Personal Data (LOPDGDD 3/2018) apply to the processing of personal data carried out through this site. Under those laws you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, port, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority (in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, www.aepd.es). To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected].

California (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, request that we delete it, request that we correct it, and opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising in the sense the CPRA defines, but you can still send us a verifiable request and we will respond within 45 days. Email the address above with the subject line "California Privacy Request."

Other U.S. states with consumer-privacy laws

If you live in Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, or another U.S. state with a consumer-privacy law, you have similar rights to access and deletion. Use the same email address with a clear subject line indicating which state's law you are invoking, and we will respond within the time frame your state requires.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for adult drivers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 (or under 14 in Spain). If you believe a child has submitted personal information through our contact form, email us and we will delete it.

International data transfers

Some of our service providers (Google Analytics, Google AdSense, our email host) process data in the United States or other jurisdictions outside the European Union. These transfers are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, which provide an adequate level of data protection.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when our practices change or when new laws make new disclosures necessary. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes — anything that affects what we collect or how we share — will be noted in a banner on the homepage for at least 30 days.
