Visitor Agreement
This is the short, plain-language statement that goes alongside our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Where the terms cover legal obligations, this page covers expectations: what we promise, what you can expect, and what we'll never do.
What we promise
- Original content. Every page on this site is written by a human editor for one specific topic. We do not auto-generate content with templates that swap in state names, and we do not republish content scraped from other publishers.
- Clear sourcing. When a fee or rule is specific to a state, we point at the source so you can confirm it. When a number changes between editions, we note the change.
- Fast corrections. If you tell us we got something wrong and you can show why, we'll fix it. Editorial corrections are usually live within two business days of verification.
- Clear advertising. Advertisements on this site are visually distinct from editorial content. Sponsored placements, where we ever publish them, will be clearly labeled.
What we'll never do
- We won't pretend to be the government. We don't issue licenses, register vehicles, take fees, or process any DMV transaction. If you need to take an action with the DMV, we'll show you exactly which official URL to use.
- We won't sell your personal data. We don't broker contact information, and we don't enrich what little information we collect with third-party data brokers.
- We won't trick you into a paid service. Some sites disguise themselves as the DMV, then charge a "convenience fee" for a service the DMV provides for free. We will tell you when something is free at the official agency, even when that's bad for our affiliate revenue.
- We won't accept payment to recommend a product. Affiliate relationships exist on this site, but they're disclosed where they appear, and they don't determine which products we recommend.
What we ask of you
- Verify before you act. A guide here is a starting point, not a substitute for the official agency requirements. Always confirm with your state DMV before making a final trip.
- Don't scrape the site. If you're a researcher, journalist, or developer who needs structured data, write to us and we'll usually help. If you point a bot at the site, our infrastructure will block you and we'll add the IP range to a permanent denylist.
- Tell us when we're wrong. Reader email is one of our best signals that a state has changed its rules. Use the contact form and include the URL where you spotted the issue.
If something feels off
If a piece of content here ever feels misleading, contradictory, or out of step with what your state DMV told you, we want to know. We aim to be the reference that drivers trust — and the only way to keep that trust is to fix mistakes quickly, in public, with the same urgency we'd apply to a bug in the site itself.
