Pulling an Idaho Driving Record
Your Idaho driving record is the official ITD account of your driver's license history — license issuance, renewals, restrictions, citations, convictions, accidents, and any administrative actions like suspensions or compliance points. There are several record types for different purposes (employment, insurance, court, personal review), and they're requested through ITD using the ITD-3220 form online, by mail, or in person at a driver service office.
Record types
Idaho issues these driving record products:
- Non-certified driver record — a 3-year history printed without an official seal, suitable for personal review and most insurance shopping.
- Certified driver record — bears an ITD seal and is admissible in court or required by an employer audit.
- 3-year employment record — the record format used by most Idaho employers and CDL hiring requirements.
- Complete driver record — full lifetime history, used for license reinstatement disputes and serious legal proceedings.
Most personal reviews and insurance comparisons need only the 3-year non-certified product.
How to request
You can pull your Idaho driving record three ways:
- Online: through the ITD Driver Services portal with a credit or debit card.
- By mail: mail a completed ITD-3220 with a check or money order to ITD's Driver Services section in Boise.
- In person: walk into a driver service office, complete the ITD-3220 at the counter, pay the fee, and the staff prints the record on the spot.
Online and in-person requests typically deliver the record the same day; mail requests take 7-14 days.
What's on the record
Idaho driving records show:
- License issuance and renewal dates.
- License classes, endorsements, and restrictions.
- Convictions for moving violations and DUI offenses.
- Compliance points from the schedule.
- Administrative actions — suspensions, revocations, restricted permits, and reinstatements.
- Accidents reportable to ITD.
- Driver-improvement school completions.
Most moving-violation convictions stay on the visible 3-year record for 3 years from the conviction date. DUI convictions stay on the lifetime record permanently and remain visible for insurance look-back periods that extend well beyond 3 years.
Record fees
The non-certified record carries a small fee; certified records cost a few dollars more. The 3-year employment record is bundled into the non-certified fee. Idaho records are inexpensive compared to many states, which makes pre-screening before a license renewal or auto-policy comparison practical.
Who can pull your record
Idaho restricts third-party access to driver records under the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act and Idaho Code. Permitted requesters include the driver, employers conducting CDL or fleet pre-screening with the driver's signed consent, insurance companies underwriting a policy, courts and law enforcement, and certain government agencies. Bulk record requests by marketers are not permitted in Idaho.
Disputing an error
If something on your Idaho driving record is wrong — a citation that wasn't yours, a conviction that was dismissed, a misposted reinstatement — you can dispute it. Submit a written request with supporting documentation (court abstract, dismissal order, identity-theft affidavit) to ITD's Driver Services section. ITD investigates by contacting the originating court or law-enforcement agency. Corrections typically process within 30-45 days, and ITD will mail an updated record once the change is made.
Keep a copy
Pulling your Idaho driving record once a year is a reasonable habit, especially before any major life change — moving out of state, changing jobs to a position that involves driving, applying for a CDL, or shopping auto insurance. The cost is small, the turnaround is fast, and seeing a clean record on paper before someone else does is always preferable.
