Wyoming Driving Records

A Wyoming driver record summarizes your license status, recent moving violations, accidents, and any administrative actions WYDOT has taken. Records are maintained by the WYDOT Driver Services Division in Cheyenne, and any driver can request their own record using form DRR-1.

Why pull your Wyoming driver record

Common reasons:

  • Verifying that a citation, court action, or DUI has been correctly recorded — or removed.
  • Confirming reinstatement after a license suspension.
  • Providing proof to a new auto-insurance carrier or to an employer that runs a driver background check.
  • Disputing an entry that appears in error.
  • Reviewing the driver record before a CDL physical or a federal medical-certification update.

Types of Wyoming driver records

WYDOT issues three principal record formats:

  • 3-year non-certified record — shows convictions, accidents, and administrative actions in the last 3 years. The basic record for personal use.
  • 5-year non-certified record — extends the window to 5 years. Common for insurance and employment screens.
  • Certified record — bears a state seal and is admissible in court. Required for SR-22 reinstatement, court evidence, and some employment situations.

For commercial drivers, a separate CDL Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) covers federal Driver Qualification File rules and shows the federal medical certification status.

How to request a record

Wyoming offers three request methods:

  • Online through the WYDOT Driver Services portal. Returns a non-certified record by PDF download. Fastest method (typically same-day).
  • By mail using form DRR-1, a copy of your government ID, and a check or money order. Mailing address is in Cheyenne. Turnaround is 7 to 10 business days.
  • In person at any WYDOT examination office. Bring DRR-1 and your driver's license; certified records are issued on the spot in most cases.

Fees

Wyoming fees are modest. A non-certified record is approximately $5 (online or mail) or $7 (in person); certified records add $5 to the base fee. Verify current fees on the WYDOT site, as the schedule adjusts periodically.

What appears on the record

The record shows:

  • Driver name, date of birth, and license status.
  • License class, endorsements, and any restrictions (corrective lenses, IID, daylight-only, etc.).
  • Issue date, expiration date, and renewal history.
  • Convictions for moving and major violations within the relevant window.
  • Accident reports involving the driver.
  • Administrative actions — suspension, revocation, probation, IID restriction.
  • SR-22 filing status, if any.

How long entries stay on the record

Wyoming retains entries on a sliding schedule:

  • Most moving violations: 3 to 5 years from the conviction date.
  • DUI convictions: lifetime — Wyoming does not remove DUI convictions from the driver record. See Wyoming DUI laws.
  • Accidents (non-injury, non-fault): 3 years.
  • Suspension and revocation actions: 5 to 7 years from the lift date.
  • Major violations (vehicular homicide, hit-and-run, fraudulent license use): permanent.

Disputing an error

If your record contains an entry you believe is wrong, file a written dispute with WYDOT Driver Services in Cheyenne. Include the citation number, court of disposition, and any documentation showing the actual outcome (court dismissal order, expungement order, payment receipt for a citation that was actually paid). WYDOT investigates within 30 days; if the entry was reported in error by a court, the court must update the record before WYDOT can correct it.

Insurance and employer access

Insurance carriers and employers can pull a Wyoming driver record only with the driver's signed consent under the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA). Wyoming does not sell records in bulk to commercial data resellers. See Wyoming car insurance for how the record affects rates and the conviction record page for how WYDOT handles repeat violations.
